Week 7, Day 1.

Jump right in, because this is week is clearly a 'big' one in the project!

Standing in the new carport, looking up - the ceiling is underway!

More ceiling, and a door!  That's the door that used to be in the entry from our old carport.  Who can say, "Recycle?"

Where the door used to be.  For home security, and energy efficiency, while the construction is still very rough, now we have NO doorway. Plywood block!

I think I shared a front-facing shot of the new fireplace space previously, but a side view caught my eye today. Can you tell how deep the fireplace mount is? And this means the built in cabinetry on both sides of the fireplace will also be deep. Storage!

New bricks! This is the rear of the house, standing at the rear exterior corner of the new bathroom.

And finally from the backyard.  The new brick is clearly the unpainted brick, but the brick to the left of the electrical meter was just done today.
Prepared for week 7!

It was Memorial Day weekend, and mostly we goofed off, which was perfect!  And, we're ready for some big things to happen quickly with the construction now that the roof is done.  Onward and upward!

Bricks ready to be put on the house!

It was rainy outside - check the rain boots.  And, the kids head straight for the shower space every time we visit the construction.

Hi Charlotte!

Tickles!

Couch snuggles!

A temporary calm. Charlotte checks out her couch opponent.

Tickles redux!

I'm not sure who's in charge here!

See Buster's ears?  He is NOT happy.

Week 6, Day 5 - Hooky day!

We played hooky (sp?) today and went to the beach!  Not really - we both planned to be away from work for much of today, but it was a bit last minute.  It was time for a quick family escape, and it was an awesome day to kick off a holiday weekend.  We had a blast, and it's hard to believe that spending just an afternoon at the beach with little kids really worked out so well.  And, no one is sunburned upon our return!

Even with our escape, the workcrew was hard at work in our absence.  And, they worked the whole day, which is unusual for a Friday, to make up for the Monday holiday.  With all that was accomplished, we have a lot to look forward to next week!

Don't know what you know about plumbing, but I know nothing - and this looks exciting!  This is the plumbing for our double-sink vanity in the master bathroom.

The roof on the addition is DONE, and the exterior is all wrapped in this black cover (insulation? water resistance?). Next comes exterior bricks! And we're still waiting on those carport posts...

The completed roof from the backyeard, with the variety of finishes on the backside of the house.  And, that one remaining window hole has no window.  Not sure why that one has been left open - maybe for some ventilation for the workcrew?

Post-beach pile on the mini-slide!! They're exhausted, and Charlotte has oreo remnants on her face. :)
Week 6, Day 4

With the work really focused on the roof, and I think some interior structural support work, I must admit that it's not particularly visually rewarding.  So, let's check in with the kids!

Yes, Jay is about to dump water on Charlotte.

Sprinkler time!

Somehow Charlotte always ends up more wet than Jay... but I guess she is the same height as this sprinkler.
Week 6, Day 3

The big 'event' of the week is the roof, and it's exciting and noisy.  Once the roof is done, then the doors and windows are secured so the addition is 'dried in' and it can get air conditioning, dry wall, and other interior finishings.  Big things ahead with this roof on the move!

Here comes the roof!  One of the these days the new carport will get its white columns on the right side so it doesn't look so precariously propped up!

New roof - and the mixture of house finishes on the backside - view from the backyard.

Baseball is underway amidst the construction!

Week 6, Day 2.

Pictures were taken in the morning, before work, rather than the evening, so don't be concerned about the drastically different lighting.  No bad weather!  No camera issue!  Just didn't take the photos Tues evening.

The roof multiplies!  No, that's not shingles - that's the black tarp/lining stuff that goes under the shingles.  The roof now covers the whole carport and the bathroom/closet, but not the master bedroom.

The view from the backyard.  You can see the part of the roof that's not "dried in" yet, but there's another new window!  Only one new window to go!  Hi, Jay!
Monday, 5/21: The roof, the roof, the roof is on....

Not on fire.  No fire.  But the roof is on its way!

The roof is coming on the back half of the carport.

The giant closet almost has a whole roof!

Mini-roof for the bathroom windows.

Standing in the new doorway that looks out of the family room into the new carport.  Partial roof, whole Charlotte.

Aha!  Should have started with this view.  From the backyard - check out that roof!

Charlotte's workin' man pose.

She is cuckoo for coloring!
Weekend interruption!

The weather this weekend was amazing, so off to the park we went!

Week 5, Day 4.  Getting caught up!

The construction has been going well, and these guys are HOT.  It is humid this week and warm.  I know they're used to it, and the summer will only get warmer, but they sure do look warm when we get home each evening!  Check out their hard work!

Not sure if you can tell a difference, but the trusses have multiplied and the roof is now getting eaves.

EAVES!  Not really as exciting as all caps suggests, but it IS.  EAVES! :)
I suggested checking out the workmen's work.  Had to change the perspective a teensy bit as the focus of the next few are purely family-focused, not a product of the workmen (other than the surroundings!).

J.T. gives the construction two thumbs up!

While the kids and I played in the new rooms, Buster stood on the back patio and barked at us!  He can't hear himself or anything else, so he just barks away!

Jay's turn to 'wash wash wash!'

They are sitting where the new bathtub will be.  Bathtime!

This cracks me up.  It is the 'doorway,' which is only temporary while the space is finished, so the workmen can get into the new bedroom and bathroom without crawling through windows.  The horizontal beam that says 'low clearance' is about 5'5" because I can just clear it to walk through.  Over the past few days it has gone from an open space, to a labeled cross beam, to labeled side poles, to pink flags.  I just LAUGH imagining how many workmen must have run into some piece of this, with a head or shoulder or tool, that necessitated adding more warning signs every day.  Ha!

Week 5, Day 3 (5/16/12)

Still catching up, and not much visually to share, but there's a lot happening!  The trusses (sp?) are still going up for the ceiling and roof, and they just seem to multiply daily!  Not worth taking pictures of, really, but there's definitely progress.  The most tangible, visible progress is below....

WINDOWS!  The bathroom now has windows!  The two smaller windows are in the shower, the bigger window has a matching one on the other corner wall over the bathtub.  WINDOWS!

Week 5, Day 2.  Delayed, but still effective if you're not catching this all in person!

Sorry for the delay - it's been a hell of a work week!  So, where were we?

The walls are multiplying!  This is standing in the new carport, looking at the old carport.

Standing in the new carport, turned a bit toward the backyard.  Hello closet/bathroom addition!

In the new carport, looking down the driveway to the street.  The support beams for the new carport look so awkward, but I bet they'll improve.

More artistic shot, looking up from within the new master bedroom.

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

On to Week 5!  Day 1.

Even with some intermittent heavy rain Monday, there was lots of progress!  Most notably, the roof is underway!  There was a roof on the old storage room, but with the bath/closet addition next to it, the roof needed a completely different pitch.  So, off with the old, on with the new - all in one day!

From the driveway, standing on the back of their worktruck, you can see all the new walls, and the new roof in the far back.

Much closer, outside the high bathroom windows, looking up to check out new roof supports.

I figured out the right view for the photo!  From the backyard.  Old part, new part, new roof, etc.

More new roof supports to come...
If you noticed some extra beams and posts in that first picture, here's a closer view.  The structure of our carport is going up!  There will be a full ceiling/roof to the carport, with posts along the far side to support it.

The rear of the carport support work.

We're done in the construction; let's play sand!
